JOURNALISM

Andrea Arzaba (México, 1989) is an international journalist and bilingual writer. Currently, she works as the editor for Latin America and Spain with the Global Investigative Journalism Network. She also serves as director for its Digital Threats project.

Her work has appeared in media outlets such as National Geographic Traveler, Proceso, Animal Politico, the European Center for Journalism, Global Voices, and NAHJ’s Palabra, among others. Her reporting has been done from the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Spain, South Africa and Nigeria. See some of her pieces here. She also has more than 10 years of experience working with international organizations, as a consultant on media and women’s leadership and freedom of expression.

Andrea holds a master's degree in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University, with a BA in Communication and Journalism from Universidad Iberoamericana, in Mexico City. She has also taken journalism classes at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

CREATIVE WRITING

Andrea Arzaba (Mexico, 1989) is a writer and journalist. Her short stories have appeared in the anthology “BOOM+ Tool Box: Creative writing short story workshop on the Latin American Boom”, published by the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington D.C. (selection and prologue by Luis Felipe Lomelí). Another anthology where her stories appear is "Tiempo suspendido", published by Proceso Magazine and LATE. She has been a member of workshops with writers such as Luís Felipe Lomelí, Mónica Ojeda, Cristina Rascón and Jazmina Barrera, among others.

Andrea holds a master's degree in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University, with a BA in Communication and Journalism from Universidad Iberoamericana, in Mexico City. She has also taken journalism classes at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Andrea has been selected by Mexico’s National University UNAM to study the III Diploma in Creative Writing and Literary Criticism (2023- 2024). Her passion is inhabiting characters that break stereotypes to create new narratives. In 2024 she was invited to participate in the program Under the Volcano, in Tepoztlán. She joined the workshop led by writer Alberto Chimal.
